Buying guide · Carpet

Best robot vacuum for carpet in 2026.

Carpet asks more of a robot vacuum than a smooth floor does. Pickup, rug transitions, brush maintenance and sensible mop behavior matter more than a single suction headline.

For carpeted homes, start with the machine's ability to keep contact with the surface and move between carpet, rugs and hard floors. A useful dock and a brush that does not turn pet hair into a maintenance task are equally important.

Our take: Choose by your carpet’s permitted pile and a disclosed pickup test. We do not have a common current-year carpet test supporting a winner from the archived prices. X10’s manual excludes high pile and rugs thicker than 18 mm; D20 Pro Plus requires mop removal before carpet cleaning.

What to check before buying

Rug transitions

Measure the thresholds and look at how rugs sit against the floor. A robot that can cross the transition reliably is more useful than one that only performs well in a single room.

Mopping on carpet

If the robot also mops, auto-lift height matters. Mopping hardware should stay clear of carpet, and the dock should make the wet-cleaning routine manageable.

Brush upkeep

Carpet captures hair and fine debris in the brush. Confirm that the roller and side brush can be removed easily before treating a large suction number as the deciding factor.

How we chose

We compared dated catalog entries by stated carpet and mixed-floor fit, published feature details, price and availability. The listing data is checked on the date shown and can change. We do not present Amazon owner-review totals as independent editorial scores.

Carpet permissions before a ranking

Use the X10 manual’s own high-pile restriction and carpet-mode guidance before comparing performance. The D20 Pro Plus page separately recommends removing its mop for carpet. These instructions are not a common pickup test or a brand-wide rug rule.
