How the desk works
How we compile product information
We compile manufacturer documents and cited independent tests. We do not test products ourselves, and we do not publish scores.
What we do
We read manufacturer manuals and specification pages for the exact model, and we record what they state. We cite independent tests and reviews with the conditions the reviewer reported. Owner-reported issues appear only as reported; they are questions to check, not failure rates. Each claim keeps its model version and source date.
What we do not do
We do not claim hands-on testing, unboxing or ownership of any product unless a page supplies that evidence. We do not publish numerical scores or rankings. Retailer star ratings are not our ratings. A commission does not choose a pick.
Source tiers
Tier A, manufacturer manuals: operating instructions, printed dimensions and placement guidance, cited by page or section.
Tier B, manufacturer web pages and service articles: product claims and labelled specifications. A label is reported as a label.
Tier C, independent tests and reviews: cited with the reviewer's conditions and date. A result applies only to the conditions the reviewer tested.
Tier D, retailer listings, price feeds and owner reports: used to date a price or to report an issue as reported. They do not establish performance.
Each figure in our comparison data carries its tier, so a claim can be traced to the document that states it.
Dates and re-checks
Each figure shows the date its source was checked. Price snapshots carry their own dates. A prose edit does not re-check an offer, and a re-check does not repeat a test. When a source changes, we update the figure and its date. When sources conflict, we state the conflict or remove the unsupported claim.
Commissions
Some links earn a commission through PartnerBoost and Levanta when you buy. Commissions do not decide our picks or change the evidence we report. Read the affiliate disclosure for the full terms.
AI assistance
AI tools help extract passages from sources, organize comparisons and draft text. Every claim is checked against its source before publication, and missing evidence stays missing.
Report an error
Send the page address, the sentence you dispute, and the source that shows the error to the site owner. We correct confirmed errors and show the revision date.
Corrections and updates
Material corrections receive a page revision date. Revised October 17, 2026.
