Robot Vacuums on Thick Carpet: Check Permission Before Pickup Claims
A thick-rug decision starts with model instructions, mop handling and carpet-specific evidence.

Short answer: we cannot name a thick-carpet winner from our listing snapshots. First confirm that a model is permitted to clean your rug, then compare pickup tests on a similar surface. Carpet detection and a large suction figure do not establish that fit.
A warning and a mode are different
The X10 Pro Omni manual advises avoiding high-pile rugs or rugs thicker than 18 mm because the robot may malfunction. Its Carpet Avoidance option skips detected carpet; it does not clean a rug excluded by the manual. This is an X10 rule, not a brand-wide threshold.
For the D20 Pro Plus, Dreame’s US model page recommends removing the mop pad before cleaning carpet to protect against wetting. That instruction does not establish a supported high-pile height or a comparative pickup result.
Ask what the carpet test actually used
Our evidence checklist: rug construction and pile, debris type, whether material was pressed into the carpet, cleaning mode, number of passes and what remained on the brush. A result from bare floor or loose tufts is not a measurement of embedded fur in your rug.
Measure the rug and its edge
Record the pile and backing separately from the step at the rug edge. Add fringe and the approach route to the comparison. A threshold-crossing specification answers a different question from whether a brush can clean the pile.
When another cleaning method is the better investigation
Our judgment is to look for a cleaner explicitly suitable for the rug when the robot’s instructions exclude it. Check that alternative’s instructions too; removing mopping hardware alone does not guarantee a thick-carpet fit.
We removed the old feature-based N8 Pro+ recommendation because the listing did not establish thick-carpet suitability. This revision supplies no unmeasured winner.
Frequently asked questions
Does carpet detection establish thick-carpet suitability?
No. Detection behavior and operating permission are separate checks.
Does a larger Pa figure prove deeper carpet cleaning?
No. Pressure specifications are not controlled carpet pickup results.
Is 18 mm a limit for every robot?
No. The cited restriction applies to the X10 Pro Omni; verify each other model separately.
